Here’s the thing nobody tells you about tomatoes: the magic happens before the plant ever goes in. Dig your hole a little deeper than you think you need.
Drop a generous handful of compost in the bottom. That’s the meal that feeds the roots all season. Then set your tomato in deep, right up to the first leaves, and bury the stem. It will grow roots all along it and stand up strong.
A lot of people put the plant in and hope. You don’t have to hope. You just have to feed the hole.
